Maintaining Mobility
through sustainable exercise

for middle-aged adults and seniors

What is the Maintaining Mobility Program?
The Maintaining Mobility Program is designed by Penny Sablove, a physical therapist, to improve the quality of movement in everyday life - walking, lifting, driving, stair climbing, agility in sports activities, etc.

Decline Is Not Inevitable
The expectations we have of ourselves as we age have been set far too low - many of the changes we may take for granted are unnecessary. Balance, stiffness, stamina, strength, and power can be improved through specific physical training. Many of the most common mobility limitations are not due to structural changes, but rather to:
  • Habits of movement.
e.g., standing on the same leg all the time.
  • Weakening of very specific muscles groups.
e.g., the quadriceps and the ankle flexors.
Training Makes the Difference
Habits can be changed. Strength can be built. More effective movement patterns can be learned. It is all a matter of training and practice.

The Maintaining Mobility Program Addresses Individual Needs
The Maintaining Mobility Program helps resolve and circumvent mobility problems associated with aging by helping each participant:
  • Identify problem areas
  • Build strength in needed muscle groups
  • Learn new movement patterns
